Ngabwe District is located in the Central Province of Zambia and is one of the country’s newest administrative units, established in 2013 following its separation from Kapiri-Mposhi and a portion of Mpongwe Districts. The district lies approximately 143 km north-west of Kabwe, the provincial capital, and 355 km from Lusaka, Zambia’s capital city.
Ngabwe is strategically positioned with vast untapped potential for agricultural and rural development. Its expansive arable land makes it suitable for both smallholder and commercial farming, while the availability of natural water bodies, streams and wetlands supports crop production, livestock rearing and aquaculture.
The district remains predominantly rural, with development steadily progressing. According to the 2022 Census, Ngabwe is home to an estimated population of 42,104, a figure that continues to rise owing to natural population growth and internal migration driven by agricultural opportunities and government-supported community development initiatives.
Administratively, Ngabwe hosts one parliamentary constituency; Lufubu which is represented by an elected Member of Parliament. It comprises eight (08) wards, each led by an elected Councillor.
The district continues to benefit from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), which has enabled the implementation of key community projects including schools, health posts, boreholes, skills development programmes and other public infrastructure.
Infrastructure growth remains a priority, with ongoing upgrades in feeder roads, electrification of public institutions, water reticulation systems, and expansion of critical services in the education and health sectors. The increasing demand for land has prompted the Council to initiate township planning and improved land administration systems to support sustainable urban growth.
Ngabwe stands as one of Zambia’s frontier districts with high investment potential in agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, mining, energy and manufacturing. With continued government support and private-sector participation, the district is poised to transform into a fully structured and thriving township.
To be a thriving and inclusive rural district anchored on sustainable development, equitable service delivery, and active community participation. Ngabwe Town Council remains committed to fostering growth and improving the livelihoods of all its residents through development that meets their fundamental needs and provide sustainable socio-economic development
To deliver efficient, effective, and sustainable services that promote rural transformation and improved quality of life for all residents of Ngabwe District.
